About Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza

The Thyssen-Bornemisza is part of the “Golden Triangle of Art” in Madrid, along with the Reina Sofia and the Prado; in fact, the main Villahermosa building is a short-walk from the Prado. The gallery is home to paintings spanning from the 13th to 20th century, many of which belonged to the private collection of the museum’s founder Heinrich, Baron Thyssen de Kászon. His son Hans and wife Carmen Cervera added later works before he sold all to the Spanish government in 1993. Highlights include mid-century Italian and Dutch works, famous Renaissance masterpieces, Impressionist and Post-Impressionist samples from the likes of Monet, Renoir, Degas, and Van Gogh, and Picasso’s Cubist models.
