About Museo del Prado

One of the famous museums of the “Golden Triangle of Art,” the Prado first opened to the public in 1819 after Ferdinand V11 turned the building designed by his grandfather, Charles III, into the Royal Museum of Paintings and Sculptures in 1785. The museum displays one of the largest and respected collections of European art, featuring works that span from the 12th to 19th century and are based on the original Royal Spanish collection. The Prado comprises around 7,600 paintings, 1,000 sculptures, 4,800 prints, and 8,200. Highlights include extensive works by Goya and Velzázquez’s Las Meninas.
