The Traje Museum is known for its comprehensive display of the history and evolution of Spanish style and fashion. The collection focuses mostly on clothing in Spain from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries, but also features unique pieces from the 16th and 17th century. The museum includes as well an extensive showing of jewelry, accessories and textiles. Other departments display historical artifacts such as agricultural and domestic equipment, leisure activities, and documentary photographs and films. Samples from current designers in Madrid often comprise the temporary exhibits.

The first of its kind in Spain, the National Museum of Anthropology was inaugurated in 1875 by King Alfonso XII.  This ethnological and anthropological collection shows the diversity of global culture found throughout Africa, America, Asia, Europe, and Oceania.  The rooms of the three floors of the museum are organized geographically and by topic.  The museum also includes a section on the history and founding of the museum itself.  The museum’s library is specialized for anthropology and has services for inter-library loans.
